Elliott Responds to Trump Attacks on Connecticut

Josh Elliott, Democratic Challenger for Connecticut Governor, Responds to Trump’s Attacks on Connecticut Communities

Hamden, CT – State Rep. Josh Elliott, the progressive Democrat challenging Ned Lamont for Governor, condemned the Trump Administration’s recent attacks on Connecticut communities. In the past week, the state has seen a student detained by ICE, the city of New Haven sued over its immigrant protections, and an uptick in ICE’s presence in Norwalk. All signs that Trump is targeting Connecticut again.

Here in Connecticut, we look out for our neighbors. That’s why we have some of the strongest pro-immigrant laws in the country, and why we are always fighting to expand protections for marginalized communities.

But Donald Trump has made it his mission to attack those values. He is tearing families apart and working every day to terrorize our neighbors. That’s why ICE detained a Cheshire High School student, the son of someone who worked hand-in-hand with the U.S. military in Afghanistan. That’s why he’s attacking Norwalk. And that’s why Trump’s DOJ is suing New Haven for protecting its immigrant population.

As Governor, I will never hesitate to stand up to bullies, whether they’re in the White House or the board room. I will always put our neighbors first.
