Elliott Statement on Eversource Power Outages
Hamden, CT – Rep. Josh Elliott released the following statement after severe weather caused power outages throughout the state:
“This morning, thousands of Connecticut households woke up still without power. I’m grateful for the frontline workers and neighbors across New England who jumped in this weekend to try to get Connecticut back online, yet many towns are still recovering and waiting for an update. They could go days or more without reprieve. I have seen this story play out before, when a storm in 2020 knocked out power for thousands of Hamden families.
“Eversource and UI having monopolies in their regions means we will just wait and hope for the best. Meanwhile, we are currently being asked to pay some of the highest energy rates in the country. We need an alternative to the for-profit monopoly that answers to Wall Street instead of working families. We need to invest in better infrastructure, including undergrounding lines so this doesn’t happen again. When I am Governor, we will have the option of a public power system to hold these companies accountable.”
