Protecting Abortion and Expand Reproductive Freedom
Abortion is healthcare. Connecticut should be expanding reproductive freedom right now, especially with Donald Trump and MAGA Republicans in Washington threatening blue states. Abortion care may be legal here, but that doesn't mean everyone can actually get it. Costs and arbitrary timelines get in the way. No one seeking reproductive healthcare should hit roadblocks getting the care they're entitled to.
As Governor, I will make sure the public health insurance option covers:
Abortion and related care.
IVF.
An expanded HUSKY doula benefit, beyond the current four-visit, $100-per-visit cap.
Postpartum depression and maternal mental health screening.
Diagnostic laparoscopy and imaging for suspected endometriosis.
I will also:
Stop religiously affiliated hospitals from steering patients away from reproductive health care.
Move Connecticut's abortion law to a medical-judgment standard, so doctors, not politicians, make the call.
Raise Connecticut's Medicaid reimbursement rate for abortion care, so patients aren't stuck on waiting lists because providers can't afford to see them.
A Statewide Constitutional Amendment to Enshrine Abortion Access
The best way to protect abortion rights from MAGA attacks for generations is to put them in the state constitution. As Governor, I'll work to pass this amendment right away, so abortion, reproductive care, and contraception are permanently protected in Connecticut.
